Therapies We offer In Los Angeles

Cognitive behavioral therapy

As an evidence-based practice, cognitive-behavioral therapy has shown positive results in research studies in treating people with depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders.

When a client is participating in cognitive-behavioral therapy with a trained therapist, they can:

At Crosspointe Recovery, we believe cognitive-behavioral therapy is an effective treatment for recovery from addiction. CBT emphasizes the development of personal coping strategies and focuses on identifying and changing irrational thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes.

Our therapists will explore with clients patterns of self-destructive behaviors. Throughout the therapeutic process, clients will gain insight in to the underlying reasons for their addiction and other maladaptive behaviors. Through identifying irrational core beliefs, clients will take the necessary steps to change their beliefs to something more positive.

Crosspointe Recovery offers substance abuse groups and trauma groups throughout the week. Individual sessions are conducted more frequently to provide clients the opportunity to address their unique challenges. A comprehensive treatment plan will be specially designed for each client. Clients will learn strategies for managing internal and external triggers for substance use, as well as learning techniques to manage mental health symptoms, such as depression and anxiety.

Clients will experience many benefits from working with a therapist who is utilizing CBT as the primary treatment modality. Clients will be able to put their newly learned skills to use to strengthen their recovery from substance abuse, and to help them maintain long-term abstinence from substances.

Dialectical behavioral therapy

At Crosspointe Recovery, we utilize therapeutic modalities which have proven results for treating and healing addiction. One of our approaches is dialectical behavioral therapy.

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that began with efforts to treat Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). DBT has been proven useful in treating: mood disorders, PTSD, suicidal ideation, self-harming behaviors, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders.

DBT consists of four modules: Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotion Regulation. Mindfulness is derived from Buddhist meditative practice. The treatment includes five essential functions:

Family therapy

Family therapy has been proven to be beneficial for long-term recovery for people with substance use disorders.
At Crosspointe Recovery, we define “family” as anyone with immediate blood relations, extended family members, close friends, spouses, support communities, and significant others.

Crosspointe Recovery believes that the entire family suffers when an individual in that family is struggling with a substance use disorder. We find that family therapy to be important and integral piece in a successful recovery program.

The reasons for substance abuse are multifaceted and complex. Family issues may have a direct correlation with the individual’s substance use disorder. It is extremely important to educate, inform, and treat the entire family unit to strengthen the individual’s overall recovery program.

Family members may be reluctant to participate in therapy due to their belief that the substance abuse problem lies with the individual. Studies have shown that families who engage in therapy with the person in recovery, have greater success both for themselves and for the individual struggling with the substance use disorder. A family has its own communication structure and internal dynamic which can be addressed in family therapy sessions. The therapist can observe this dynamic and how it impacts each member, and make suggestions on how to improve or modify unhealthy behaviors and/or communication styles.

Family therapy in treatment at Crosspointe Recovery may be helpful to:

Depending on geographical differences, family therapy may be conducted through tele-sessions or in person. Different combinations of members may also be present, as the clinician will determine what will be most beneficial at what time for their client in treatment. Family therapy sessions are not meant to reveal any confidential information that the client has shared while they are in treatment.

It is important to grasp and understand that the family plays a complex role in the treatment of substance abuse and is most often the source of the most significant help, or damage, for the client in treatment. Family therapy must be facilitated by an experienced clinician in order for the sessions to create positive change for all involved, even if that means family members have to disengage with the client during treatment if they cannot be open to changing or accepting their part in the dynamic.

Yoga therapy

At Crosspointe Recovery, we believe that yoga therapy is an integral aspect of treatment for those with substance use disorders. Yoga is  beneficial when used in tandem with other traditional substance abuse treatment methods.  Modern yoga uses physical postures to teach how to connect the mind, body, and breath to gain self-awareness and to focus attention inward.

Yoga is increasingly being used in substance abuse treatment programs and throughout recovery to help prevent relapse, reduce withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings, and to provide a healthy outlet to cope with potential triggers and daily life stressors.

Stress, anxiety, and depression are common side effects of drug withdrawal, and the use of yoga in recovery works to improve these symptoms.  Yoga can also increase energy levels, encourage people to eat better, and improve quality of sleep that may be disrupted by substance withdrawal symptoms.

Yoga therapy includes aspects of mindfulness, breath work, meditation, and physical stretches that contribute to the wellness of mind, body, and spirit.  Yoga helps to regulate blood circulation, allows for balance and harmony, and provides clients with peace of mind. We believe that a balance of mind, body, and spirit is fundamental to achieving long-term sobriety. Yoga offers the following benefits for people in recovery:

Breathwork therapy

At Crosspointe Recovery, we believe that alternative and holistic approaches, in combination with traditional therapies, are extremely beneficial for long-term recovery.

Breathwork therapy has its own unique methods of using breath for healing purposes. It draws from Eastern practices like yoga and Tai Chi while incorporating Western psychotherapy techniques. The goal of any breathwork is to support individuals in achieving a greater sense of self-awareness and capacity for self-healing. There are several kinds of breathwork therapy available today (Holiotropic, Rebirthing, Clarity, and Biodynamic). Breathwork therapy is used in both an individual and group session facilitated by a certified practitioner.

At Crosspointe Recovery, breathwork is a simple breathing technique that assists in processing trauma, developing healthier thought patterns, and creating new perspectives on old behaviors. As a result, clients experience a more tangible connection to their bodies.  This practice allows clients to become more aware of buried emotion and deep-seated trauma, while identifying the necessary steps toward healing those wounds. Through breathwork therapy, clients gain awareness that they have the power to generate the same sense of relief that they had previously only been able to find by using drugs and alcohol.

Art therapy

At Crosspointe Recovery, art therapy allows a person to use their creativity and imagination to make art that expresses how they are feeling in a healthy and productive way. The goal of art therapy is to help individuals expand their form of communication to better convey their experiences.

Art therapy is especially helpful for people who have underlying psychological issues related to their substance use disorder, such as a history of abuse.

Art therapy is useful to people undergoing substance abuse treatment because it provides them with ways to understand and cope with their substance abuse issues. Both art therapy and traditional therapy focus on helping a person practice introspection and healthy coping skills, but art therapy can be a great way for a person to explore aspects of themselves and their lives that cannot be explained in a conversational way.

Some art therapists at Crosspointe Recovery hold sessions that integrate specific crafts that a client can incorporate into their everyday lives. Having a box where they write positive affirmations, a collage of what they want for the future, a glass jar filled with sayings of the day, or a painted frame where they can put a photo of their loved one are all examples of what art therapy projects can produce.

The kinds of art normally used in art therapy include:
